Turn Up The Music

I missed writing yesterday’s blog on Discover Prompt. I kept postponing it and totally ran out of time. Today’s prompt is music and yesterday’s prompt was three, so I’m combining the two to write this one. (See what I did with the one, two, three. Okay, fine, it wasn’t that smart!)

All of our lives have been touched by music in so many different ways. There are so many songs associated with happy memories and so many other songs associated with sad memories. There’s usually a song out there for all our moods – to cheer us up, to keep us company in misery and to make us dance in joy! There are so many moments in my life that music has been by my side but here’s the top 3 moments when it really helped me –

  • Right now during the lockdown – Music is helping me to stay calm and anxiety free. I’ve developed a liking for acoustic covers of songs and keep discovering new songs every day. My current favourite is ‘XO’ by John Mayor. No offense to Queen B but his version is so much dreamier!
  • During my solo trips – I love travelling solo but there are moments when there’s just so much silence and you need something to fill up the silence. I don’t mean there’s silence around you, I mean inside you because you don’t have anyone to share stuff with on the go. I was in Spain for 13 days a few months back. I was really scared because this was my longest trip solo – but I put on my earphones and listened to a lot of music through my trip to drive away the fear. Plus it would make me feel like I was a heroine in a Bollywood movie with music playing in the background as I danced my way around the streets of Spain (yes, I think crazy things). My go to songs were all Hindi songs – Dil Hi Toh Hai (from The Sky is Pink), Dil Dhadhakne do (from Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara), Safarnama (from Tamasha).
  • While preparing for important exams – I’ve always been a studious kid who’d work very hard. I’d study all night and barely sleep. Music kept me company through all the crazy nights of studying. It would help me concentrate on studies better (don’t know the science behind this) and it would keep me motivated.

There are so many other moments too when music gave me company like after my break-up when I couldn’t sleep at night, during my long commute to work everyday and during my crazy work outs to lose weight (I lost 25kgs – I’ll do a blog on it too!).

What were some of the moments that music helped you through? Do share some of the songs on your playlist currently! Sharing music is a great way to make new friends.

Stay safe!

What’s the Story, Morning Glory by Oasis – got me through my first divorce, and Nickleback’s The Long Road got me through my second. I still love both albums.

Great take on the prompts 😉 It’s so fun and memorable when we have a soundtrack to go with different times in our lives. It’s amazing, really, how songs can take you back and then you are there better than another vivid memory. It feels even more powerful than a photograph, or for me, a smell.
