Mok-tober – Birthday Month!

*If you’re confused by the title because you know me as Happy Panda – Hi, my name is Moksha! πŸ™‚

I’ve written and discarded so many posts about this because some were rants (about the unfortunate current state of affairs) and some were very random. I’m not sure how I feel about my birthday anymore (maybe that is a part of adulting). Last year this time I was packing for my birthday solo trip to Spain (something Google Photos reminds of everyday). This year, I keep thinking in my head what can I do to make it special but I’m totally out of ideas. I had decided to buy myself a few things but since I’m just going to be home – they all seem pointless. I had this full idea in my head that I’d be somewhere in Europe again for my birthday this year – just sipping wine and chilling. Coming back to reality…. I’ll definitely do a what I did for my birthday post later but as of now – I need some major cheering up! So looking to my blogging fam for some ideas or just some positivity. πŸ™‚

Reminiscing on my favourite few birthdays (all were pretty great but still picking favourites) –

  • Last Year – I gifted myself skydiving in Seville on my birthday! The best trip of my life – I spent two weeks just wandering around Spain, drinking and chilling. Somehow last year I wanted to be away from all the drama (like I am doing right now) of my birthday and just be on my own. It was a lot of fun – I wandered the streets of Spain, met a bunch of amazing people and ate a lot of amazing food. ❀
My birthday last year in Seville
  • 2017 Birthday – I had newly moved cities for my job. Add to that a major heart break and it wasn’t looking like a very promising birthday. But my closest friends flew down from across the country to make sure I wasn’t alone on my birthday and made sure I had a blast of a birthday. It was a super special birthday with 12-13 of my closest friends in my newly setup apartment. The memory of that birthday fills me up with so much happiness.
My besties! ❀️
(I couldn’t find a photo with the entire group!)
  • 25th Birthday – So 25 is the legal drinking age in Delhi. My really good friend then bought me my last illegal drink, the day before my birthday and later on the day of my birthday surprised me with my first legal drink (shots of Jim Beam) making my birthday so so fun! (Kids, illegal drinking is wrong!)
  • My Childhood Birthdays – My parents used to put in a lot of effort to plan my birthdays even if it was on a tight budget. They’d plan a theme, buy me a gorgeous birthday outfit and make sure I looked like a tiny cutie-pie. They’d always invite a lot of people and had a lot of games planned making the parties insane fun. The more people also meant more birthday gifts, which slowly became my favourite part of my birthdays! (:P)
This one is from my pre-teen years. With those same besties. (We’ve aged together! ❀️)

Here’s hoping this birthday isn’t as bad as I am dreading it is going to be! How was your 2020 birthday? Did it live up to your expectations or was it a washout?

Happy Birthday Moksha ❀ It sounds like you've had some really lovely birthdays – can't believe the legal drinking age in Delhi is 25! so old! I was really lucky this year for my birthday and was able to go to Salcombe (a seaside town in the UK) for a long weekend and we pretty much did everything we normally would which included lots of Gin drinking. Are you able to meet up with people and socially distance or are you on full lock down? x

Seriously, 25 is so old. You can get married at 18 but not have alcohol at your wedding – what even?!? πŸ˜›

Things have opened up in India but with the crazy number of cases, I’m taking a lot of precautions to only meet people who are being careful too. πŸ™ˆ

    Birthdays?
Weren’t they automatically cancelled for the entirety of 2020?

Just kidding. I hope you have a great one!

Mine went by in a blur this year. Quite literally. Thanks to a lot of alcohol, alone, at home. Sobbing after a breakup. Wasn’t my proudest moment or best bday ever but I suppose that fits the 2020 theme 🀭😜.

Fingers crossed that yours will be epic!
    Like skydiving. Damn!

Hahaha this year should be cancelled and our time refunded! πŸ™ˆ

Oh God – looks like 2020 was a real mess! As long as you had access to alcohol. πŸ˜‰ Wine has the power to solve most of my problems and I’m going to turn to it this birthday too. But I hope it’s gotten better.

It’s going to be as epic as last year but yeah, fingers crossed that it will atleast be decently fun. ☺️

Thank you so much for your kind words. ❀️

  4. Happy birthday lovely! I adore your name, Moksha!
My 30th Birthday was the begining of April, around 10days after lockdown. My boyfriend was going to surprise me with a getaway. My best friend was supposed to pack my suitcase, and he would take me away for a week to Venice, and then Milan to watch the Opera. I was beyond gutted! We haven’t rearranged this for next year as we don’t know what will happen. I did have a wonderful but low key birthday at home and video calls from loved ones.
Hopefully next year we’ll all have a more exciting birthday x

Happy Birthday! I love how you do something extra special for your HBD. I was surprised in Thailand to learn that b-days aren’t generally celebrated. This is a new thing due to Western influences, so it’s interesting to learn that Indians celebrate their b-days and that drinking age, my goodness. I’m sure there’s a lot of illegal drinking! πŸ˜›

Birthdays aren’t celebrated? What? Why? 😳
Indians celebrate everything – birthdays, anniversaries, etc. We just need a reason to get together and party – hence the 100s of festivals celebrated throughout the country. πŸ˜›
A lot of illegal drinking – it’s quite a stupid law. How is it okay to get married at 18 but not drink at your own wedding? πŸ˜›

Happy Belated Birthday:) wow, didn’t know that the legal drinking age is 25 in Delhi. My Birthday was in April and we were in “stay in home orders” except if you need to get medicine, food etc. my parents brought me a cake and I celebrate my birthday with them along with my younger sister and my 7 year old niece. Since I don’t drink I don’t have nothing to compare to. Here in the U.S.A if you don’t drink, you are boring, so I really don’t celebrate my birthday with friends. Only like three time, did a few friend took the time to celebrate with me during my birthday, without alcohol. I said this in my blog post, this will be the birthday I’ll remember. a simple birthday celebrated with a simple cake and with family.

Aww, that’s sweet. Sounds like a nice birthday away from all sorts of peer pressure! I wish I could be happy with a simple birthday – but I think I’m sort of spoilt and like my birthday to be sort of a big deal. πŸ™ˆ I have unusually high expectations for what I’d like my birthday to be like, so I prefer going away somewhere on my own, so my loved ones don’t feel the pressure to do something extraordinary for me. πŸ™ˆ
