(I was off for a few days from here since it was my birthday and I had some plans but when I got the 500 followers notification from WordPress, I had to login to thank you – for the best gift. It was the cherry on top of the cake!)
I’m sure you’re all like – why is this woman so obsessed with her birthday (since most of my posts this month have talked about it)??? I just like pampering myself on my birthday since most days I’m not the BEST me to me (even though I try to be). But 2020 was really out there to ruin any plans that I wanted to make. Here’s how it went down-
PLAN 1: The original plan was to spend a few weeks in East Europe – travelling and chilling! But well – we don’t have any flights to Europe from India due to the current circumstances (there are a few flights to Germany and London but you need an existing visa to take those).
PLAN 2: I convinced myself that a road trip to some place a few hours away from my city would be safe. We’d book an Airbnb in the hills and not stop anywhere enroute till we got to the Airbnb. But my family was pretty adamant about not taking any risks just to celebrate a birthday!
PLAN 3: So finally I decided that all I wanted to do was just chill on my own, some place quiet with a private pool or a jacuzzi! I found this perfect Airbnb in my city with a private rooftop jacuzzi and bar. I booked a cheesecake for myself from my favourite bakery, picked up a couple of bottles of wine and it was going to be a good birthday! But the morning of my booking – the Airbnb folks called to cancel the booking since their jacuzzi was malfunctioning and my heart broke. It literally felt like the universe was against me having any fun at all.
PLAN 4: I was sitting on my bathroom floor, tears streaming down my face wondering why this year was turning out to be worse than expected (okay, okay – I’m exaggerating, I was on the bed but I was tearing up!). I couldn’t find any other fun Airbnb and I didn’t want to go to just any place. While browsing through some hotels – I found a really good deal for a stay in a nice fancy hotel! Albeit it didn’t have a jacuzzi but I decided to book it and just go chill there instead. And it turned out to be a lot of fun! I chilled, ate a lot, watched a lot of TV shows and had video calls with a dozen friends. Somewhere in the middle of my fun day I got the notification for 500+ followers and it just made my day so much better. I came back home to a bunch of cakes and gifts! It was just a nice, quiet yet extremely fun birthday. I think this is the best that could have happened given all the constraints! More importantly I was very very happy. 🙂
