Short Weekend Getaway!

I haven’t travelled since March and I can’t wait to go on a proper trip. With things opening up in India – I have been tempted to plan a trip to the hills nearby. But with corona numbers still so high, I have had my apprehensions. To see if travelling given the current circumstances is a good idea – I decided to ease myself back into travel mode with a weekend outing to a Fort Palace resort. Me, my sister and my friend decided to drive it to the Fort Palace which is about 3 hours drive from Delhi. The fort palace is located on top of a hill in the Tijara region of Rajasthan. The idea was to spend two days just relaxing in the palace and not head out anywhere. We weren’t expecting a lot of people since this resort is less popular than the nearby Neemrana Fort but boy were we wrong. The resort’s 50 rooms were more or less booked!

Such pretty nooks are so perfect for photos

We arrived and after a quick temperature check were escorted to our room. Our room was incredibly cute and divided into two parts – a main bedroom and a smaller side room with a balcony. The fun part about the Tijara Fort Palace is that each room’s interiors have been done up by different artists and designers in their own unique way – so no two rooms are the same. Our room was designed by Rajasthani artist Nandan who did up our room to represent Jaipur.

The Room

The main room (+our stuff)
The side room with a bed and balcony
The arched balcony entrance
Even the bathroom was on theme

We explored most of the palace during sunset and early morning to try and avoid the crowd.

Royal Entrance
Entrance to the Maharani Mahal (where our room was)
The palace was so beautifully lit up at night
The pool and one part of the fort
The courtyard outside our room
View from a window
Sunrise and sleepy me
Morning view and just out of bed head me!
We climbed up to this point to watch the sunrise over the entire place
They had planted the prettiest Bougainville plants around that made the prettiest backdrops for photos
Me in a pretty nook watching the sunset

I loved the break – I definitely needed a getaway. Staying at home for so long for someone like me that used to travel a lot has been a bummer. But it is extremely imperative to ensure you take proper measures if the country you are in is still grappling with the pandemic.

My Experience Travelling During The Pandemic: We chose to travel by our own vehicle which was quite safe. The hotel did do temperature checks of all people prior to check-in but obviously that isn’t full proof. During meals, we found the restaurants to be crowded and little to no social distancing being maintained which was scary. After our first meal, we made sure we were the first people in the restaurant so that we could eat and leave before other people showed up. People were obviously there to get a break and relax – so most chose to roam around mask less in public areas – which was kind of annoying. We too were mask less whenever we found a public nook just for ourselves but not if people were around.

My Takeaways: Road trips are the way to go to minimize contact. Definitely book your own private Airbnb/accommodation to ensure minimal interaction with people. If staying in a hotel, then avoid meals in the restaurants and order room service. Definitely book a good hotel with proper santization and cleanliness.

Mask in hand – happy me!

Have you travelled in the post pandemic world? Where did you go and did you find it safe to travel?

Stay safe and travel safer! β™₯️

Brave 🐼, glad that u took precautions. Nice picsπŸ‘Œ even I want to take a break and go somewhere, but somehow I find it hard to trust the Hotels and Restaurants or any place on the measures they take. So I’ll just wait it out.

Totally agree. That’s why I’ve been so worried about venturing out too. But I think booking an entire Airbnb for yourself might be safe? No contact with anyone and you can cook for yourself. I’m considering heading to the hills just to go for treks and chill in a pretty Airbnb away from the city
