A Day Out in Delhi

With work taking up more time and adding to my stress levels (a little), I took a day off this Saturday (yeah, I work 6 days a week!!) to relax with my sister and my best friend. We had a nice day – basking in the Delhi sun – had a quick brunch, went to one of the many monuments housed in Delhi and spent some time out getting some Vitamin D. I haven’t gone out a lot in the past 7 months since I have moved back to Delhi (thank you, COVID!!) other than the odd dinner outing to celebrate a family member’s birthday or going to a friend’s house. I love roaming around in Delhi – Delhi is so rich in history, heritage and things to do. Despite having lived in Delhi for most of my life – I still keep discovering new places to see every now and then. Add to that the AMAZING food options you have in this city – from street food and the best fine dine experiences!

With the day off – our first to-do was to go for brunch. We picked this cutesy, new cafe called Colocal Chocolate Cafe for our brunch. The cafe has an in-house chocolate factory and you can do a tour to see how they make chocolate. The cafe has very cutesy vibes with yellow walls and a lot of greenery. It was EXTREMELY crowded since it is gaining popularity with the Delhi crowds. We managed to get a table outdoors and had an amazing meal!

Basque Cheesecake
Cold coffee in the cold
Bean Burger

After eating A LOT of food – we all wanted to head to some place where we could bask in the gorgeous sunshine. We headed to the nearby Qutab Minar hoping there wouldn’t be a lot of people.

Qutab Minar is a soaring, 73 m-high tower of victory, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu kingdom. The height of Qutab Minar is 72.5 meters, making it the tallest minaret in the world built of bricks.”

Thankfully we could buy our tickets online in a few minutes and headed inside to find a sunny spot to chill at. Funnily, we were all visiting the the Qutab Minar after years – once we were there we got so busy in taking photos (this Instagram generation!!). It was a fun few hours made a little stressful with the crazy number of people roaming around MINUS masks (baffles me how people are so careless).

Since I haven’t travelled in almost a year – this was the next best thing to that – rediscovering my own city. Here’s hoping I get some time off to explore some more places in Delhi.

How is your January going? 🙂

IKR? The last night I went out with my friends – is engraved in my head. If only I knew it would be the last night out, I wouldn’t have headed home early like a grandma. 🙈
Thank you so much. It was an amazing day – I needed the break.

  2. Pretty Images Moksha. Also interiors look classy of the chocolate factory restaurant. I imagine Delhi is carrying the finest of heritage slowly mixing with the new, your post is one of that treat, to the eye as little as to the stomach. Shall see visiting the place.

    Thanks

Glad you made the time to do some exploring close to home and emulate travel that way. I have been doing something similar and tried to find different spots around New York to explore. Sometimes it’s nice to be a tourist in your own city 😇

NY has been on my bucket list forever!! New York in the winters – sounds so perfect or atleast the movies make it sound that way. Is life as glamourous there as Sex and The City? 😛 I was supposed to visit NY this year for my friend’s graduation which has now moved online so 🥺.
But yeah – being a tourist in your own city can be a lot of fun especially if you discover hidden nooks! 😊

Movies and TV shows have definitely idealized New York. It’s a big city with the full range of people and not glamorous in my opinion. It still has interesting areas, son it’s worth a visit. I would recommend visiting it in Spring, winter can be freezing and miserable and summer brutally hot.

The day out definitely helped with stress and getting a break. It had been so long since I had stepped out. 🤦

Delhi and I don’t get along on most days either. 🙈 But I love the history, heritage and food of the city. If I could change the people of the city – it would be a much better place to live in.
