Get To Know Me – 5 Quirks of Mine

I am weird – there I said it! This post was difficult for me because I had to choose and pick the quirks that I did want to share and could share on this platform. I have A LOT of quirks – some more eccentric than the others. But here are a glimpse into some –

Quirk – meaning, usage, quotes, and social examples

1. I have to sleep on the side of the bed that is closest to the room door – I clearly have flight instinct. I need to sleep closest to the door so I can run at the first sign of danger/calamity. I also can’t sleep if I have to share the room with someone new. By new I mean even if it is a close friend that I haven’t ever shared a room with – I just can’t sleep.

2. I used to talk to the moon – I developed this weird quirk in my late teens and haven’t done this in a while. I have always loved the moon – ever so beautiful, watching over all of humanity. I have also had a hard time being vulnerable in front of people and hence, in my low moments I’d turn to the moon for advice or comfort or something – I guess. I’m not a total weirdo, I promise.

3. I don’t like people in the kitchen while I’m cooking – I can’t explain this quirk well. I am this crazy chemist in the kitchen – throwing in different seasonings and sauces into the pan – hoping to create something unique. I hate when people are in the kitchen watching what I’m doing or giving me suggestions or asking me questions or just there – it just takes away all the fun from the cooking process for me.

4. I don’t like talking to anyone for atleast an hour after I’ve woken up – I am a GRUMP as soon as I have woken up – I just need an hour to chill by myself before I can be social with people. The best time to talk to me in the morning is after I’ve had my cuppa coffee. If you approach me before that – God help you!

5. I need to prepare myself before any social gathering – I have crippling social anxiety. The number of times I’ve cancelled going to a social gathering because I just can’t convince myself to hangout with new people. So before any important social gathering – I need to mentally prepare myself – actually practice a few conversations in my head that I could have – prepare an exit story incase the gathering goes southwards for me -have a friend on standby to call me with a story to help me get out – yeah, A LOT of preparation goes into being social with strangers.

I’ve started a new Instagram page to talk about sustainable living, would mean the world to me if you’d follow me –

I can’t do bare feet, crap in my toes just makes me.. No. And I will eat almost anything on a sandwich.. mashed potatoes, spaghetti, potato chips. Name it. 😅😂

Hahha I am the exact opposite – I hate wearing footwear – at home I am always barefoot. Somehow the feeling of the cold floor just makes me happy. 😀

hahahh this one I GET! It’s weird but anything tastes good with bread – sweet, savory – bread just makes everything taste good! I actually put pasta on garlic bread and eat too. 😀

Are you an introvert? Talking to the moon is interesting, particularly in those moments when you want to share something and no one is there to listen you.

Haha I am a huge introvert but with my friends I talk a lot. Talking to the moon is quite calming – it’s like talking to a wise person who knows all. 🙂

  3. Love this post, I relate to a lot of your quirks. I think the one of talking to the moon is really cool, I bet it’s quite calming! 🌙 I’ve followed your insta page too, I’ve recently set one up too about my art work and also posts similar to my blog. Would be great if you could give me a follow.😁 I would say a quirk of mine is having to ‘know the plan’, for the day or for when I am going out. I need to know the time, who will or might be there and what is planned to do. If not I can get quite anxious myself! 😅 I’ll have to have a think as I’m sure I have many more… thanks for sharing!

    1. Forgot to mention the name of my insta… daytodayfamily 😌 I guess another quirk is that I’m a bit forgetful! But at the same time have a good memory for things like phone numbers and song lyrics… not sure which is more useful 😅

I so get that – I also need to roughly chalk out my plan for the day in my head otherwise I get anxious. I don’t write it down because in the past I’ve seen not sticking to the plan for any reason – would make me anxious! 🙂

      1. I’m the same! I find what helps me is writing everything down what I need to do so I can see it in front of me and then I can prioritise what needs to be done. Also, a bit of colour coding and writing lists is always a winner for me. 😀

I AM THE OPPOSITE. It freaks me out to be close to the wall – I have slight claustrophobia – so a wall near me while I’m sleeping FREAKS me out.

The third one is so true. Geez it brings back so many memories of my mom hovering over my shoulder or hurrying me to cook because of how hungry she was. Like she often meant the latter as a tease and encouraging praise, but it ALWAYS got me mad lol

    1. Happy Panda says:

I KNOW right? My sister does that too when she’s around – she’ll ask me to make something then keep hovering asking me why it was taking so much time. Gets me so MAD! 😀 😀

Tamara – you get me! I literally wrote this one because I told that moon talking quirk to someone and felt sort of vulnerable. So I thought why not just put it out there for everyone to know so it’s no longer a vulnerability. YOU ARE EXTREMELY WISE! ❤ ❤

You are so very kind! I talk to the trees when I go out for a walk, after all, they produce our oxygen! I used to try to hide my quirks but realized that as a creative person I may have more than the average person so have decided to embrace them as they make up part of my fiber! If I were to eliminate my quirks I’d be eliminating the parts of me I really enjoy! 😛

The cool thing is the more you talk about the odd things you do, the more you find out that others do the same thing! 😛

I like to sleep closest to the bathroom. While I don’t talk to the moon, I’ll yell ‘white light’ if I feel like I’m in danger. I’m guess I’m trying to cast a spell or something. Hhahahaha. And yeah, I don’t like happy morning people, but since my partner is one, I’ve had to learn. I’ll get up earlier just so I can have alone time, xo
