I am an extremely lazy person who should be made the queen of *Procrasti-NATION*. My laziness unfortunately comes in the way of me achieving a lot including making this blog bigger and better. If you are a new blogger, here are some mistakes I make because I’m lazy but you should totally avoid.
Mistake #1: Not replying to comments
I love interacting with bloggers but sometimes I get lazy and postpone replying to comments until I eventually just totally forget to reply. I love getting comments – they are the main reason I write. But when I’m lazy – I’m just lazy. If you are a new blogger, definitely make sure to reply to all the comments you get – that’s how you find your blogging family and make friends from around the world.

Mistakes #2: Not marketing my blog
I don’t know why I’m scared to market my blog. I guess I don’t think it’s perfect and hence, feel scared to share it with people and really put it out there. I love when people discover it on their own and stick around because they really like my content. But if you’re looking to make money off your blog – definitely market it on social media and with your friends and family.

Mistake #3: Not working on my blog’s SEO
Yes, it’s been a whole year of blogging and yes, I’m yet to work on SEO for my blog and posts. I enjoy the creative part of blogging but don’t enjoy the promotion and marketing part of it. If you are starting on your blogging journey, take out a few days to do a simple course on SEO to make your blog more successful to be able to make money off it.

Mistake #4: Not sticking to a blogging schedule
I just can’t stick to a blogging schedule because of multiple reasons. First, I’m lazy and only get down to writing when I’m really in the zone and my creative juices are flowing. Second, I am too excited after writing to wait a week/10 days to post. I am lazy and lack discipline to stick to a schedule. But if you want more traffic to your blog and want to be more organized as a blogger – definitely stick to a blogging schedule.

Mistake #5: Replying to emails
I get *some* mails from people asking me to review their books, websites or do a collaboration. While I try my best to reply to each, my laziness (add to that social anxiety) gets the better of me and often I postpone replying and ultimately forget to reply. I really mean to do better on this but my work, anxiety and laziness ensure I mess up on email replies. (Is replying after 3 weeks acceptable? 😦 ) If you are a new blogger or an old blogger – do not miss out on any opportunity to interact with bloggers, brands or even general audience reaching out to you for advice. Always ALWAYS reply to your emails.
PS: If you ever reached out to me and I didn’t reply – I AM SO SORRY!

Is there a cure for laziness? If you’ve secretly chanced upon a potion that makes one less lazy – do share the recipe with me. But knowing me – I’ll probably just postpone making and drinking that too! (ARGHHH!) What are some blogging mistakes that you think you make?

Agree 100 percent with all of the above. The SEO side is the trickiest I think, because there is so much to learn and boy oh boy it takes a lot of time. Especially when one has 500 travel articles. But the rewards are worth it, you really start to see search engine traffic build. Plus it’s fun to see all those red dots turn green as you plow through all your posts. For anyone wary of diving into SEO, the Yoast app is your best friend!

I agree with not following a blog posting schedule. At the starting of the day, I use to take more than a month to publish 1 blog post. Later, I realized that this is not happening, then I made a schedule to post.

I’m feeling this post😐. I recently started my blog here on wordpress and I think it is doing*okay*. Like, do I have to work harder and then wait for it to blow up gradually? I’ve read many stories in several blog-websites that their blog just exploded in a few days or whatever and fetch them thousands of views. I feel misguided at times *😖*
thanks for this post. It actually did clear some points for me!

Hi Divya, Welcome to the blogging world! 🙂
I definitely don’t think anyone’s blog gets a 1000 views overnight but I know of a few who’ve done really well over the period of 6-7 months. I think it all comes down to what your goals are – if you want to make money off your blog – you definitely need to work on marketing yourself and SEO! 🙂 Olivia Blake is a blogger I’d recommend for tips on how to grow your website!
Good luck! ❤

Haha I don’t think you’re lazy at all… I think you hinted at anxiety and fear.. Those can be huge barriers… Laziness denotes not caring, I think you care very much but you are weighted down bc you possibly care too much… Afraid to fail, say the wrong thing perhaps… Don’t be so hard on yourself, everyone is doing the best they can to get by and whatever you’re doing (as long as you’re happy) is working.. And if you’re not happy, at some point I feel like you’ll work to change whatever it is that is lacking… 😊
My mistakes are also not advertising my blog more on other platforms and SEO which i kind of still don’t understand lol
LikeLiked by 3 people
So most days I don’t really bother about these things because I write to make me happy and this is a safe space for me. But then I see the DAMN stats and it bothers me that I’m not growing! But then I close the app and I postpone thinking about it to another day. 😀
I think like Lib mentioned in her comment – most people rave about Yoast for SEO. Maybe get that plug in as step 1? I really don’t know what is step 2. 😀

I feel like this blog post exposed me haha. I’m don’t know why but I just don’t want to market my blog on other platforms, I think it’s the idea of being perceived a certain way by people that think they know me. But, I think you’re doing a great job with your blog! And it’s fun to slowly work on one part of your blog at a time rather than overwhelm yourself.

I am definitely guilty of all of these and I actually never see my “blog email”…😂 Some of those things I don’t really care about though, like marketing my blog and SEO, because I don’t really want to “grow my blog”, and I am actually very happy that I don’t because otherwise I know very well how lazy I would be with it! Another thing that I constantly put off is visiting other people’s blogs, which is weird because I love it! But since I don’t do it regularly, I end up with huge amounts of posts to check out and it takes me so long to go through them that I need a break before doing it again, and then there are again so many posts to read… 😂

Yeah – that’s another thing I totally suck at keeping up with – other bloggers’ posts. 😓 I have set time in the morning and night to do it but often I get drawn into the world of IG and totally forget about it. 🙈
I get what you mean – I really don’t try either because I’m happy with whatever organic growth I have but just sometimes when I see my stats it bothers me and makes me wish I tried harder. 🙈

I definitely relate about the not marketing and not sticking to a schedule part. Well, I’m lazy too. But lately I’ve been making a few efforts to ask people to share on WhatsApp, hopefully I get some discipline -altough just like you, I need to be “in the zone” to write someone would love reading.

I think not staying on schedule is a real killer of stats. So I perfected my schedule this year and my stats doubled but in April due to personal reasons I wasn’t able to keep up and my stats took a real tumble! So – a schedule is really important!
So my trick to getting around the “in the zone” writing bit – is that whenever I’m in the zone I keep writing snippets and saving them as drafts. So later I just improve those drafts and post. (I currently have 50-60 such drafts)
I hope I get better at doing this too.
PS: I can’t see your blog – since it isn’t linked to your name. Might want to check on that.

Oh, I actually run 2 blogs with this account… my personal one (barichnel.com) and my music blog (14h25.com) … if you intend checking on them, I’d be glad if you googled the sites before clicking so they get recognized as keywords
Ok, back to your reply – yes, you’re right… not sticking to a schedule is a stat killer… but i have so much going on right now, as a student + part time store attendant
That’s also mostly why i find it difficult getting in the zone – but I’ve noticed a few patterns… i write better either first thing in the morning… or really late at night (when not tired)

Honestly, there is no fixed frequency that works. In the beginning to build your audience, makes sense to post 2-3 times a week and later you can reduce it to 1-2 times a week. Welcome to the world of blogging – its amazing! 🙂
