5 Fun Stories From My Life

I love doing crazy things and the adrenaline rush that comes with it. But some crazy things I do just because I’m stupid. I think my life has been so much more fun because of all the silly things that I’ve done intentionally or unintentionally. Here are five fun and crazy stories of mine –

Bunked office within my first month of joining

Marine drive on a different day

Being from a coveted B school – when I joined my job with a global bank – I had two weeks filled with trainings, crazy networking sessions and interacting with all the top brass. As an introvert, this was painful enough to get through but once my job really started, I was informed that I had to go through another 2 day mandatory training. At this point I was done with these trainings. It was the start of monsoons in Mumbai and I had newly moved to the city. So a friend and me went to the training, sat through one session, made friends with one of the people helping organize it all, signed our attendance and ran. It was really risky since we were barely one month into our jobs and if the trainers complained we’d have been in BIG trouble. My manager was top management and a really strict boss, so it was even more thrilling to cut office like that. We then caught a local train and went to Marine Drive (a very picturesque part of Mumbai) and spent the day getting drenched in the rain. It’s one of my favourite work memories till date.

Drank a whole bottle of wine before an exam in B-school

Wine and my photo wall

My B-school years were crazy! But despite all the fun I had, I made sure to always take exams seriously. I never aimed to top but just to consistently be in the top 15-20% of the batch. It was our last exam of B-school and our last exam ever, since none of us planned to study further. My friend and I decided to get drunk and give the exam. We got a wine bottle from a friend and started chugging it 20 mins before the exam. Now it takes a few minutes for alcohol to get into your system and act up. We reached the exam hall all fine but a few minutes before the exam started we got really high. We somehow finished the exam in 25mins and ran to eat something. Turns out my friend and I ended up doing really well in the exam. I’m guessing the teacher was just as high while he was checking our papers.

Had a HUGE crush on my boss

My boss was 15 years older than me and I couldn’t stop myself from crushing on him. He wasn’t good looking but he was really nice and extremely intelligent – both qualities that I find very attractive. The crush was not the crazy part of this situation – it was how I’d behave around him. I’d clam up and get awkward and go RED when he’d talk to me. Once he was talking to a bunch of us informally and started pulling my leg about some work that I had to do. I got SO awkward – I dropped the pen I was holding and then spilt my coffee. I was so mortified that people would know about the crush from the way I was around him that I’d end up behaving even more strangely in my efforts to cover up. I was so scared to even make eye contact with my boss and would often stare at my shoes to avoid looking at him while he spoke to me. It was a train wreck! Funnily, once I moved from that team, I got to talking about him with a colleague from my old team and turns out she had a huge crush on him too!!

Becoming friends with someone so that I could set them up with my friend

I love match making and I totally suck at it. In college I had a really close Bengali friend (hailing from West Bengal state in India) who was single. There was only one Bengali boy in our class and I decided to set them both up. I didn’t know this guy at all and had infact never spoken to him. Were either of them interested in each other? No. Did that derail my plans? No. I befriended the guy and started talking my friend up in front of him. I’d force them to sit together in class. I’d force them to go with me for coffee. Did my plan work out? No. But crazily that guy and I ended up becoming best friends! He’ll be one of my bridesmaids whenever I get married, just as I was his bestich mensch.

My First Solo Trip

Kodai Lake

I had my two months of summer internship in Chennai, India. It was a weird time for me since I was in a new city really far from home. I had only one person to talk to – a classmate also interning in the same city. I was having major issues in my love life. My internship was boring and the people in office talked in their local language and made me feel quite excluded. So when I got a long weekend off – I planned an impromptu solo trip. Kodaikanal is a hill station, an overnight journey away from Chennai and I decided to head there. I was super scared and nervous since I had never gone on a trip alone before but the adrenaline rush was so overwhelming that it pushed the fears away. I spent two days – walking around this cute little hill station, eating at cute cafes and bakeries and stayed in a picturesque resort. I felt so good and rejuvenated. The alone time helped me through so many emotions that I had been suppressing. Not to say that it was all smooth sailing – I got eve teased by a bunch of guys while walking back to my resort after dinner and that was terrifying. But overall I think the trip really helped me get stronger and be comfortable in my own skin. I’ve travelled solo a bunch of times after.

What are some of the crazy things that you’ve done that have now become fun memories? 😬

I too had drinking sprees during my college days and often get really wasted but still ace my exams… my secret is, I review for the test before drinking… my drinking buddies who were my blockmates were furious as to how I ace the exams while they flunked and had to repeat the subject πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Traveling solo in India is brave, but I think it’s awesome that you did. If you’re smart there’s no reason why one can’t. I’ve travelled alone many times – few things bring as much peace as being on the road. Great stories πŸ™

While leaving navodaya and coming home back, I was so excited, fully inspired. I don’t want to return home instead I wished to find a place to work on my ideas, maybe top colleges and humanities universities of India. It happened on 24th March 2019.

In August, I have to leave my parents to join counselling at BHU (Banares Hindu University). I pay rent for my room with my roommate. It took me a long time to adjust because my body was not accepting the food and water. In the rainy season, I got sick. I broke up.

After recovering health, becoming more aware than before, today I’m confident and strong. Now, it is easier to deal with the different situation and circumstances of life. I walk on my path alone.

Crush on your boss. Hahahha I had a crush on my colleague. Turns out he had one on me tooπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
You are the only person who always advocates for solo trips. I want to do it as well.

  22. Wow! It truly sounds as if you’ve had a very adventurous life! Skipping work when you just got the job and crushing on your boss? Ooo, risky. I’m happy you got away with it though 😊 I think that a crazy thing that I’ve done is during a boring walk with a group of strangers through a zoo. There was a HUGE hill that ran down for metres and metres. I convinced my mother to let me go in my wheelchair so it would roll down the hill by itself. The first few seconds were so much fun and I even put up my hands in excitement on the way down until I realised I was gaining speed too fast. I tried to put my brakes on but even they weren’t powerful enough to stop my movement down the hill. I ended up ejecting from the wheelchair and splayed out across the top of a fence. It was so embarrasing, I felt very foolish and everyone was staring at me. Looking back though – it’s just too funny!!! 🀣
