How Blogging Has Benefited Me

I’ve been actively blogging since April’20 and it has been such a fun and interesting journey. At the onset I do want to clarify that none of the benefits from blogging have been monetary for me but there are other benefits of blogging that are underrated. Here is how blogging has benefited me –

1. Made friends around the world – I know a lot of you are thinking that online friends aren’t real friends but that is far from true. These friends helped me get through some really dark and low phases over the past year. They’ve cheered me on and picked me up when I was low. Whenever things do improve, I’d love to meet these friends over coffee and host them whenever they are in my city or country.

2. Learnt about digital marketing – I can hear my followers laughing. While I don’t market my blog – I still have learnt so much in my 16 months here. From learning about technicalities to techniques to market yourself online. There are so many bloggers who explain these things so simply on here and share their learnings – making it easier to understand and implement.

3. Got back to reading – A big shout out to all the book bloggers I follow – they’ve inspired me to get back to reading in a big way and also, helped me discover some kick-ass books and authors. From reading 5-6 books every year over the past 3-4 years to reading 20 books last year to already crossing that mark this year. Blogging has gotten me to get back to reading. (Though I’ve barely read 3 books in the last three months – here’s hoping I do better in the last 4 months of the year. Please share some good book recommendations in the comments.)

4. Been my safe space to vent and overshare – Being an introvert with the whole pandemic situation – I slowly stopped sharing what I think and how I feel with my friends and family. This blog became my safe space to overshare and unburden myself. I’ve also met some wonderful and wise people in this blogging world- who have guided me through my anxiety ridden phases.

5. Helped me learn and get ideas – From getting ideas as to how be more sustainable and green to learning about different cultures and countries to learning about technology and so many other things. The blogging world is filled with so many interesting, wise and fun people. It is always a great learning experience to read other bloggers’ perspectives and experiences.

Number 4!! Blogging has become a stress reliever at times. And it’s the least toxic social media space in my opinion. Great post!!

I agree! I feel like the blogging world is so much more real than the social media world. I prefer being on here too. Plus it is easier to connect with strangers minus any creepiness. 🙂

Moksha, I love your points! I’ve been regularly blogging for almost 9 months now.. It’s crazy how fast it’s gone by! I, too, feel like I’ve made great blogging buddies over the last 9 months and am so grateful to have met you all! The blogosphere at times feels like a very small space (your bound to bump into ppl within the same “circles” of blogging groups lol and other times it feels like a ginormous universe)!

Another thing I’ve been really grateful for is being able to share my stories with others who can relate! Feels awesome! Hope we never stop! 🙂

Really – I can’t believe I’ve been on here for THIS long too.
I agree – sometimes I bump into a friend’s friend and feel like wow what a small world and sometimes I come across these absolutely new people and feel like woah what a big world! 😀
Here is to many many more years of blogging (along with some brand deals :P)!

I couldn’t agree more, there are so many benefits to blogging. I love learning about new things, people and places. I’m still new to blogging (4 months) so can’t say I’ve really got blogging friends yet but I hope that will happen soon!

It will. It took me a few months to find my circle too – but they’ve been around ever since and really made this journey all the more fruitful. 🙂

  5. Love this! I’ve been blogging since 2017 and it’s helped me to be more confident in who I am. I thought I was confident before but I really wasn’t and kept certain aspects of myself inside bc I was certain people would think I was just “too much” if they knew the real me 😬 but blogging made this safe for me and now I’m the REAL ME with pretty much anyone I meet! Thank u for writing this it was a great reminder! 💖

That’s great to see how much blogging has benefited you. I have had some similar benefits, but also, because I’m a Third Culture Kid, I feel like blogging is especially cathartic because it’s rare for people to know about people like me and I’m glad to spread that message!

You’ve got a good thing going on here. There are a lot of side benefits to blogging. I look at blogging as a microcosm of how people should act in society. Most bloggers are respectful and exchange thoughts in a civilized manner. Somewhere along the line, people have forgotten how to do that.

These are great points that you shared! Yes, blogging is a great way to overshare and unburden ourselves. These days, I’m super hesitant to overhears with family and friends IRL, and I feel much safer sharing my thoughts with the WP community. Facebook and IG doesn’t even feel like safe places to vent anymore.

Blogging does help one meet like-minded people. It’s been a learning experience and very relaxing as I enjoy writing.

It has made me pay very careful to time management, and workflow management so I have a balanced life without too much screen time. And this has flowed into my hobby, vocation and career as a piano teacher.

These skills are already a part of playing and teaching the piano and blogging has strengthened them, giving me more piano practise time and the ability to teach these skills to students in the process of adapting to online living.

Blogging has been and still is a wonderful learning experience and blogging conversations are, for the most part, positive and encouraging. I have come up against blogs pounding out bias, discrimination and hate – some written by very talented writers. I’ve managed to keep a distance from them so far, and hope that continues.

I wish you well on your journey as a blogger Happy Panda!

I absolutely agree with the 5 points that you have stated. To add another point to this list, which can have many more points perhaps, I would say Blogging has given me a great platform to practice and promote my passion – for me it is writing short stories, for different bloggers it can be different things. Right from a sky-diver to a a person who is confined to the bed, blogging can be a big blessing and a great tool.

I learn new things daily from people like you. I enjoy this process of working on a certain thing, searching about it, getting knowledge about it, reading 10-20 articles just to make 1 blog!
I enjoy every minute of it and I’m happy that I started blogging!!
