I love the challenges that do the rounds on WordPress. The ones that impress me the most are the single lines stories – people do such an amazing job of writing whole stories in one sentence using prompts. The creativity that flows on the WordPress community is the primary reason I find it close to impossible to stay away from this blog world. Recently Sam nominated me for a single line stories challenge and to be honest, I am kind of terrified to do it – mostly because I don’t think I can do the challenge half as good as Sam did, herself. But it does seem like an interesting challenge and something different from what I usually do here on my blog (that is blabber). I am not really following all the rules but taking this as a fun personal challenge.
THE CHALLENGE –
- Write 5 single line stories that fall under any of these genres (you can pick which ones you do!):
- fantasy
- romance
- thriller
- mystery
- western
- contemporary
- historical
- drama
- dystopian
- adventure
- sci-fi
- paranormal
- young adult
- You can choose 5 genres thatβs easiest for you, or you can challenge yourself to try something new!

GENRE #1: ROMANCE
As the bride walked down the aisle, her best friend turned to look at the man she deemed not good enough to marry her friend, the tears in his eyes and glow on his face finally made her a believer of their love.

GENRE #2: THRILLER
As the bride walked down the aisle, her best friend turned to look at the man she had almost married, a shiver ran down the groom’s spine as he felt like he was being watched, by her, – the world didn’t know the lengths he had gone to to make this wedding possible.
GENRE #3: DYSTOPIAN
As the bride walked down the aisle, her best friend smiled melancholically before returning to the perimeter as she and the rest of the wedding party stood on guard against the OAIFM (Organization Against Inter-Faith Marriages), little did she know that none of them would see the light of the next day.
GENRE #4: HISTORICAL
As the bride walked down the aisle, his courtiers wondered what end awaited this new bride, her ladies in waiting talked to each other in hushed tones, blushing and giggling, wondering if they could be next in line to marry King Henry.

GENRE #5: YOUNG ADULT
As the bride walked down the aisle, her 15 year old best friend awaited her at the end of the pretend aisle, as they said their pretend “I DOs”, she wondered if her best friend would kiss her at the end of the ceremony, she hoped she would.
I tried to do something different by taking the same premise and trying to present it in different genres. I like some of my stories better than the others. Which single line story was your favourite?
PS: I didn’t nominate any one for the challenge but if you are up for it, leave a single line story in the comments using the same premise and of a genre of your choice! π
Give my other recent posts some love –
Wow wow, goodness mee!! This is probably one of the BEST things to have come out of this challenge! I looove how imaginative this is and how you could narrate a similar βplotβ in so many different genres. My personal favourites are young adult, historic, dystopian, yeah, basically all of it:β¦ π Young adult is the cherry on top though. π Loved every single story!

I wrote one story and didn’t know what to do for the others – so I decided to just use the same premise and tweak it. π

This is the first time when I’ve seen this sort of challenge. It’s good but not so easy to implement. Excellent work done.
