Why I don’t quit blogging?

Ah, November is here. How is this year passing by so fast? I’ve been painfully aware of my dwindling stats on here over the past 2 months. I haven’t been around as much, so it makes sense but still bothers me a lot. At some point over the past few weeks, I started to think about quitting, since I was drowning in work and personal stuff. As much as I didn’t want to miss out on the blogging world, real world took precedence. Blogging has been a hobby that has become a whole second job – it takes a lot of time and effort to keep a blog running even though the monetary returns are nil.

So why didn’t I quit?

This is my safe space

I don’t like being vulnerable with people. I know it’s terrible but I just can’t bring myself to tell people around me about all the crazy things that go on in my head. This blog has been my safe space to share the sad, the vulnerable and the crazy thoughts I have. It’s gotten me through my anxiety ridden days of COVID. I feel safe sharing my experiences in this (mostly) judgement free space. I also love when people relate and share their own experiences – makes me feel less weird.

All the amazing people I’ve met on here

It is the amazing bloggers on here that got me addicted to blogging and while some are not so active on here anymore, there are new friends who’ve joined my list of cheerleaders. I didn’t think that I’d make good friends on here but there are a bunch of bloggers that I try to keep in touch with through other mediums. These friends have been so supportive of my journey on here and in general. They are a big reason I haven’t quit. I really hope to meet them in person in the future.

A hobby that isn’t just a hobby

Blogging is a hobby and probably one of the few hobbies that I have stuck out with. While it takes as much work as a full time job, I still feel like putting in that work. I used to write a lot when I was younger but lost that part of me during my corporate job days only to rediscover it during lockdown 1.0. I love that I have a hobby that I am addicted to and find hard to quit on. I may not be very good at it but I still love writing.

I love blogging and I am going to keep at it. I know a lot of people have been struggling to keep up with blogging especially with life going back to almost normal. I see a lot of my favourite bloggers not being active or taking a hiatus. While I totally support taking a break from time to time – I hope this post inspires a few to not give up on blogging. I know it’s hard for me to keep up these days but I’m going to manage my time better and start on this blogging 2.0 journey. Hope you’ll join me on this journey too. ♥️

PS: Sam and I were chatting recently on Telegram and I had this random thought to start a Telegram group for blogger friends. We can find bloggers to collaborate with/guest posts and in general discuss ideas and share our posts with each other on there. It will also be a great way to motivate each other through writer’s blocks. It won’t be a very big group – just a close knit blogging group. Do let me know if you like the idea and I’ll make the group and share the link with you. 🙂

Lovely post! And I couldn’t agree more. ❤ I've been blogging for almost six years and, like you, I've met some awesome people here at WordPress. I wouldn't dream of quitting now! I don't like to say goodbye. 🙂

I totally agree with you about life resurfacing and taking up more time now! During the pandemic I spent a year blogging daily, writing positive posts. Work seems to take up a lot of my mental bandwidth and it now takes me days to write or rewrite posts so my out put has definitely lessened! I’m not thinking of quitting, but it takes more effort to get a post finished now!

I’d be interested to join a group you might start even if I’m not familiar with Telegram?!

  4. Blogging is not easy and requires a lot of time…important is not to let it become a second job, because then it’s easier to quit…when needed, take your break and always remember why you’ve started blogging in the first place 😉 The community and friendships are priceless 😉

I relate so much to “a hobby that isn’t a hobby”. It’s quite hard to explain to my friends how I get so stressed about something that I could simply… quit. 😂

I’m glad you didn’t stop. Never stop. Lol.

Also, I love the Telegram idea!

  10. Blogging does take a lot of time! Now that things are getting a little more normal, it has been something that I have had to weigh as well. I like to keep my commitments to a minimum and by continuing to blog I have to say no to something else. I agree with you though that blogging has become more than just a hobby. I enjoy writing, the community, and the feeling that I am helping others.

I’m glad that you decided to continue blogging as well. I always enjoy reading your posts!

While I used to find time on the weekend to write blogs for the week, it has been harder these past few months. I’m hoping I get back to my blogging schedule soon.

Even if you have such thoughts, I hope, wish and know you won’t act on them. Once you monetise your blog, you might expect some monetary rewards perhaps. I’ll remember to click on all ads 🙂 There are always more reasons to keep going than to quit. I guess you’re not the only one whose stats are taking a dip. I’m sure it’s the case with a lot of people, as many bloggers who usually enjoy as much as 300+ likes on their posts within seconds of publishing seem to have hardly half that these days. Many people are taking vacations but I hope with all my heart they’ll be back soon.
PS: I’m all in for the Telegram group! It’s a fab idea. 😀

Moksha, I think it’s amazing that you’re recognizing how much you give to this blog and community, and that sometimes a break is much-needed. I hope your feel renewed bc we would miss you if you stopped telling us everything happening over there and your life! 🙂

Blogging has helped me centre myself, focus on what’s important and also meet so many other amazing people that I don’t think I would have otherwise met if not for the blogosphere! 😊❤️🙌

  15. This is so well presented! I started blogging this year at 61, as a challenge to myself to be more open and vulnerable in my journey to an authentic life. Writing, and the blogging community here, have helped me tremendously. I don’t check my stats, or do what I should do to increase engagement. I’ll take a break when I need to. I’m still a recovering social media avoider, lol 😁, but am so glad to have connected with you and others here on WP. Thank you!❤

Be kind to yourself! It’s OK to take a break sometimes, it’s OK to worry about your stats, it’s OK to not feel inspired. Just be you. You inspire so many of us. I love your blogs and I think you are a very genuine, authentic writer. The group sounds like a great idea! Good luck!

  18. I was surprised to discover that I have developed a comradery with other blogs and bloggers over the 2 plus years I’ve been at it. I also think most folks thinks of stopping. It is a commitment and can be a drain but that can mean that one is putting something valuable from themselves into each post. Thanks!

Whenever I think about quitting, I think of all the relationships and the kind of an effort and time I’ve invested here and I immediately come back to my senses. For a longest I wanted to quit especially when I saw how my blog took a knockoff. But im glad im back on my feet now.
