I tried keeping up with the Bloganuary prompts but just couldn’t since it has been a busy month for me. But I thought I’ll do some bonus posts for the weekend and this Bloganuary prompt seemed pretty straightforward. I did a WHOLE post about the 5 things that motivate me a few months back and if you read that, you’ll know where this quote is from.
All my life I chose to be a part of the rat race, go for high-paying jobs that never made me happy, and I choose to look for happiness outside of the workspace. But I decided to quit and follow my heart, so began my small business journey. I’m hoping my work gets me the peace that I didn’t have while I worked my corporate job and this Steve Jobs’ quote always motivates me to keep going.
What is a quote that motivates you?
PS: Pete’s recent post about overcoming fear was a very motivating read too. Definitely check it out.

I’m not sure who wrote this quote, but I love it—”Don’t settle for nice, for pleasant, for familiar. Keep looking until you find something that really moves you, that resonates with your core. And I mean this for people, for interests, for hobbies, for your possessions, clothes, music, books, art. Everything. Curate every aspect of your life, as much as you can. It’s in the things that deeply inspire us that we find ourselves. Surround yourself with truth, and you’ll have built yourself a heaven.

Before this most recent job I have, I interviewed with many employers, some of whom offered far more money. I kept praying that I be placed in the job where I’m NEEDED. I didn’t pray to be placed in the best paying, silly me, perhaps in retrospect! Lol! This is one of the most challenging jobs I’ve had because of the craziness of what’s happening throughout the place, but a fellow colleague and I know with certainty that we were placed there by a higher power (because of how things had worked out for each of us), so we keep reminding ourselves and each other that we were placed where we’re most needed.
While this job doesn’t tick all the boxes I’d like in a job, it does serve an elemental need in my soul to do work which is necessary for the community. This is what I hold onto as we navigate some difficult waters.
Meanwhile I’m quietly setting myself up for a new type of business for my retirement income.
Blessings to you and your business!

I know what you mean. My old job just didn’t spark any joy in me and I kept interviewing for jobs that internally I knew I didn’t want. And like you, I was okay with a pay-cut as long as it was a job I liked.
Love that you are working on setting up your business. ❤️

😊 it may take a while, but I know I’m doing something for myself! I hope to be able to fully step into it in five years. Until then it may be part time.

I actually really love this Steve Jobs quote and he’s such a fascinating character to me. I’m also loving this quote lately: “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” – Robin Williams. Thanks for this post, I super enjoyed! ☺️

My sister and I were discussing Robin Williams just a few days back. She just watched Dead Poet’s Society. He was such a cute person. ❤️
Steve Jobs is a huge inspiration to me. Bein kicked off his own company to coming back and how – just wow.

Yeah I actually think I need to read his book (Steve Jobs), I never have. I don’t think he was like the nicest person in the world, but he was pretty complex. Again, fascinating to me. I’m guessing you read his book? Ps I LOVE dead poets society ♥️

A quote I had on my phone screen for a while was, “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” I always remembered that. Thanks for the motivation! 🙂
