PS: I’ve been in a mood this week, so re-sharing this post from last year that I loved writing. ❤️
I think it is fair to say that every single blogger faces this issue ( or non-issue) – some have thousands of followers but only a few hundred engage and some have hundreds of followers but only a few ten engage. Honestly, I don’t actively go looking around for followers – I barely do enough to keep the ones I do have. Yet, I see the follower counter slowly go up day on day – but I don’t see any change in the engagement on my posts. So here are my conspiracy theories about what happens to such followers –
- My follow button doubles as a black hole – this is THE most obvious theory. People read my posts, get amazed (duh!), go hit the follow button but ta-da get swallowed into a massive blackhole. Are there any physicists following me? If yes, can you please help me find said black hole, I’d really like to help my followers.
- My blog is haunted like in the RING movie – if you haven’t watched the movie, people who watch a videotape get killed shortly after. I think my blog might be doing something similar and disappearing people that visit it.
- Aliens disapprove of my blog and abduct anyone that follows it – I can just imagine a disapproving alien reading my posts, shaking his head at the average content and then watching in disbelief as someone hits follow. He probably abducts them to perform tests on these one of a kind type of human beings.
- People unknowingly follow my blog, read the content and give up on the blogosphere- This can most definitely be the cause – people look at my pretty blog – hit the follow button – knowing little what they are signing up for – read one post and never return to the blogging world!
- My content is like sleeping beauty’s spindle – Maybe my content is like that spindle that put’s people into a deep slumber that they can only awaken out of by true love’s kiss and let’s be honest those are hard to come by.
PS: If any of these are true – I want to apologize to my followers 😛
What are your conspiracy theories about what happens to followers that don’t engage? WRONG ANSWERS ONLY! 😀
Like my post and hit that follow button. If you survive whatever horrors that follow, drop a comment below to let me know that you’re okay! 😀

What a fun post! Maybe they win the lottery after following and are off to some cool places next that they no longer have time to blog.

I totally agree! Although, my conspiracy theory is that they follow my blog to get me to follow back or check out their blog. Then when I post new content they’re not actually interested enough to read it. Kinda sad, I never follow people if I’m not interested in their content.

I hate to admit it, but I do the same thing. I feel it’s important for me to follow my inner integrity and only follow those I feel a connection to.

And even if you don’t really care enough to read all the posts – how about reading atleast once in a while? 🙈

Generally, they want follow back, that’s it. No new, God-level content can entice them enough to engage in posts😂😂

Hahaha I love this! I agree with your black hole theory. One of mine is that the less effort I put into my blog posts, the more people will enjoy them and vice versa. So I need to put as little effort and time into my blog if I want engagement 😅

Hahaha. Yeah, no one enjoys a well written, edited, beautiful looking post – it’s the shabby ones that catch the eye. 😂

By engage do you mean like , share of comment ? By what I observed about 20% of followers will hit like, 2% leave a comment and if the post is really good and about 0.02% of them reblog
LikeLiked by 2 people
That’s true. But what are the rest 80% doinggg? What do they want? 😛

Multiple ways.
1. Cover an outrageous topic and enable a thumbs down that should get more engagements.
2. Embed a ticktok video in each post. that should get youth hooked.
3. Or there is always the way times of India notoriously achieved. Insert scantly clad photos

People who like the comments I leave on other blogs but never ever interact with me. A huge pet peeve! There’s a few bloggers that come to mind off the top of my head.
A high follower count looks good, yes, but not so much when the comments section is practically dead. I try my best to encourage ppl to comment but I admit it’s hard. I’m happy that someone spoke up about this!! 🙂

The new WordPress update has made it even worse. Liking and not visiting the blog has become mandatory.
I visit many new blogs from the comment section of the ones I follow. The list of blog responders that can be viewed by anyone at the end of a post is now missing.

Hahahahah. Yesssss. Omg! There are a few who constantly like my comments on posts but never engage – what do they want? Such attention seeking gimmicks. 😂

I feel like spam-liking 30 of their posts just so they get a taste of their own medicine. But then I would be sinking down to their level 😓 I purposely try not to give them the time of day but then they end up being even more annoying *sigh*

I can only speak for myself… When I started blogging I was very irregular and I would read blogs that I enjoyed and like them but never comment bc for some reason (and it makes no sense to me now) I was timid and also insecure about my own thoughts and what I had to share… Perhaps I felt like, “why would anyone care what I think?”… But now I find the blogosphere is such a forgiving and open space… 🙂

I totally get it. I was the same when I started off. Since it’s all so new, the idea of engaging with other bloggers never crosses your mind. But a few months in you realise that engaging with other bloggers makes blogging even more fun. 😊

This was an interesting post😅. I love ur conspiracy theories. I have to admit I kinda feel the same way too.

Right? It’s a common issue that we all face. Had I been more proactive in marketing my blog, I think I’d have had lesser complaints. But my laziness + people just following to get attention = one sad blogger. 😂🙈

I am in the same boat too. I see people reading my posts but hardly one or two people would comment anything. I started this blog because I wanted to interact with people who have similar tastes like me but I get so little interaction that it’s kinda disappointing especially when we put so much time and effort into our posts.

Lately I’ve notice the people who have started to follow my blog have blogs that are marketing, market their business or something financial related. They only follow my blog hoping to get follower and clicks on their blogs, probably to earn money.

Maybe they get sucked into the blogosphere like in Jumanji, after they click and they have to stay there for long till you click their follow button.
Btw your conspiracy theories were hilarious 😂😂😂😂. Some of them might br true though😬

Haha, I’ve noticed this too. It also happens on social media (to some degree). I loved the humorous list. XD XD Especially loved #5! 🙂
My wild theory is that: the following button is a direct ticket to the upside down (from stranger things), and legend says that many are stuck there even today. XD

Yeah – I don’t get the whole follow for follow concept. I’m sure it works for a lot of people in terms of getting followers but it annoys me.

I think a lot of ppl are inconsistent (says the girl who’s been too busy this month) and maybe start off enthusiastically by liking and following and then fall off the face of the earth, so to speak. 😛 I know you’re being funny, but I hope you don’t take it personally! xo

Heheh no no, I get that people get busy. But I have about 900 followers and get only about 120-130 views per post, 50-60 likes and 15-20 comments. Hence the post.
Wasn’t meant for friends who get busy once in a while. 🤗 What’s keeping you busy?

Happens to me every time. They come and give random likes, follow me, and that’s the last time I am seeing them.
My niche is health and wellness, and if people don’t want anything related to that, why do they even follow.

But the ones who do engage are a part of my blogging fam and I usually look forward to their interaction only. 🙂

Funny, Moksha😊 I enjoy your posts, and those of others I follow. I’m just not going online more than 2 or 3 days a week. When I am online here I use Reader to catch up on posts, and can miss those that don’t show up on Reader for whatever reason. Also, do you ever feel so drained after writing something emotional that you just don’t have it in you to engage? Kind of like an “introvert hangover” when you just need to retreat and recharge? That happens to me.
Thanks for sharing this again!💜
