2022: First Rant Post

It’s been a while since I’ve ranted on here. But I’m in a mood right now. I tried to finish one of my drafts to post but I just really need to vent so fair warning, this post is not going to be very fun (unless you are a sadist – then have fun!). I was playing around with the idea of doing a weekly Sunday post about 7 things I had been grateful for that week. But as much as I try to focus on being grateful and positive, the world around me seems to be spinning on an axis of negativity. You’re probably wondering what’s going on, so here goes –

UKRAINE

The world watched silently as US pulled out its troops from Afghanistan leading to total chaos. The world is again on the fence, watching this madness unravel. The worst part is that in all the power play between world leaders, common people (like us) end up suffering. Praying for Ukraine!

ALL THE NEGATIVITY ON SOCIAL MEDIA

I just have to say this – people wanting to get attention and become popular on social media are totally out of control. Everyone seems to want their 2 minutes of fame and are slowly making the whole space so negative. Things that annoy me –

  • Evil or wasteful pranks that are passed off as funny
  • People finding the need to comment negatively on other people’s posts (posts which don’t effect their life in any way)
  • People sharing their opinions on EVERYTHING to appear “woke”
  • People with opposing political/religious views fighting in comments
  • People sharing THE most boring reels just to somehow get Insta-fame
  • The craziest influencer reels that make their lifestyle seem normal (Recently I saw this Indian influencer who gifted her girl friends (20 of them) the Dyson Airwrap (worth USD550) on her bridal shower – like WHAT!!?? )- this sets such wrong aspirations for regular “influenced”people

I miss the days when Instagram was just a beautiful space where people shared photos that they took that they thought were nice. I remember when I first discovered Instagram in 2014 and fell truly, deeply, madly in love. It was such a welcome change from the crazy that was Facebook. I used to love seeing people post pretty photos and appreciating them. But now Instagram makes me SAD.

GETTING PAPERWORK DONE FOR MY BUSINESS

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

So if you don’t know, I run my own business and we needed some paperwork updated on a government certificate that took FOREVER to do – despite it just being a simple flow of information between two Government portals. Made me really wonder if going digital has made things easier or more difficult since the only way to get any human intervention is to raise service requests again and again!

DEALING WITH VENDORS

My people skills are terrible since I literally HATE confrontations and arguments with people. Unless a vendor really gets on my nerve, I try to calmly resolve situations especially since we are continuously doing business with each other. But sometimes I just want to really bad scream at them or just start crying while dealing with them. I know my conflict resolution skills will hone with time but in the meantime, I am just frustrated with a few vendors.

There goes my first rant for 2022! Sometimes it can be such a relief to just VENT which is why I do these rant posts on here. So if there is something bothering you feel free to rant in the comments!!!!

  1. Yes, the world is sitting on the fence. It needs to stop watching the TV as things unfold and actually do something 😉

  2. I suppose 2022 is as similar to the past two years. Actually, worse. When everything was looking a bit normal, a nation declared war on another. Everyone has their reasons of course. We can’t choose a particular side. In terms of diplomatic relations, Indians will go with Russia, or at least they won’t interfere. In terms of humanity, we’re crying for Ukrainians.
However, above all this, it’s the working-class people like us who are decimated in wars waged by the rich & those in power. I just saw infants being taken into bunkers to avoid as much threat as possible in Ukraine. Horrifying!
Memers & Influencers are making jokes & other stuff not knowing what must be the situation out there.
Well, the trolling, arguing war on the Internet & in the comment section of various platforms is just because of a lack of empathy. We can’t do much when even educated individuals post-hate-monger comments.
    Best wishes for your work.

  3. Let it all out! Hoping writing this post helped you. We are also feeling anxiety from the Rusaia-Ukraine conflict. All we can do is hope the people that pull the ropes do not make a mistake that leads to bigger problems. Sigh.

It is so frustrating that we can’t really do anything to help other than pray. 😦
We could all be living at peace and enjoying the bountiful the earth has to offer us but instead….we wage war for personal profit!

  4. OMG I’m totally the same. I can’t stand confrontation, so I’ll try to fix annoying problems as civilly as possible, even if the person makes me want to yell at them 😅

SAMEEE! I might let out a scream once I am on my own but I just can’t do confrontations. I really need to improve though since a huge part of my work revolves around dealing with vendors. 😦

Glad you’re ranting. Ukraine. They have had wars and invasions on and off for 1000s of years. Was the same for Afghanistan too if i remember my history. Maybe its a pandemic thing. People arent keeping an eye on things. I know where I am in Australia there were a couple of bills passed during lockdown that never even made it on the news.
Now my rant. In Australia they have moved from real news to infonews several years ago. Rather than giving the details so we can make our own take on things they give a one sided story with their opinion. It is so irritating. They treat their audience like they can’t make their own informed decisions.

Ukraine: War sucks – especially for us common people with no say in what happens – the worst hit are always the common people be it in Ukraine or Afghanistan or Palestine or other war-torn places. And the ramifications affect even people not directly involved – with the stock market and crypto market crashing.

Ohh – it is the same in India. News channels are mostly afraid of our government and tend to report in a biased manner making it hard to believe any of the news we get. Though few independent news reporters have emerged that report unbiased news. Why do you think this trend has emerged in Australia?

I have no idea. It seems to be very one sided at times and very woke. Think it is more popular opinion based on social media. Def not fear. If anything the 1 percenters are very vocal here.

  7. Sorry you’re having such shit to deal with M! It all sounds valid and I’d be annoyed too. I can’t even with Ukraine. I’m so over this patriarchal globe vibes. So over it 💔🙏🌎

I hear you about confrontation. I typically go out of my way to avoid them. I was the bargaining chair for our union for two years, and I hated it. On the other hand, if I feel like something is unfair, I can get fired up. We seldom have any dental work done, and the insurance isn’t picking up something that should not be an issue. This is one of those times I’m going to raise hell if they don’t get their act together.

It makes me so anxious to confront people – I try to do it in an indirect way and they most often don’t get it! 😦
Insurance companies can be so annoying sometimes – definitely don’t back down!!

  10. The war really sad.
    The paperwork really tedious.
The social media race to become visible and people trying to appear ‘woke’ – exhausting, funny not funny. I still like to do things slow and ateady, old ways anywhere in media. Hopefully this turtle survives and is a contribution when hopefully everything else fades(wishful thinking) towards more balance and authenticity.
Your rant is valid, hope you felt space after expressing.

I did, thank you! Sometimes my head gets heavy with all the negativity of these thoughts so venting definitely made me feel better.

  12. Happy Panda just become frustrated panda!!
Things get annoying when stuff doesn’t go according to our desire.
It happened same with me, it took me forever to get GST number.
Also for me the most annoying things is travelling on the road when there are too many idiots on the roads.

These government portals have been designed to make life easy but without human intervention, it seems like it is making the process more tedious – it took 21 days to get a name update on a certificate even though all our other official documents were updated. Our digital systems need to have a fixed turnaround time for ease of business.

Yes, I have had such a negative view of social media in the last few years… I know there are definitely good things about social media and the advances we’ve made in the world due to social media but there’s still so much negativity that spawns from social media and I can’t help but get annoyed by people (even people I know myself) who are contributing to this problem… showing their highlight reels online but living a complete lie….. irks me so much!

I KNOWWWW!!! I also feel like people have this pressure to shop, travel, eat out just so that they have content for social media. And this influencer lifestyle is setting such a wrong baseline for life expectations for the younger generations.

  15. This isn’t the main point of your post, but I think it’s worth mentioning that your first rant post of 2022 wasn’t until end February, and the issues you mention here – Ukraine (both the terrifying situation as well as the lack of media on other humanitarian crises such as Afghanistan), social media (agree with you on all points), and the frustrations of running a business – are incredibly justified. In contrast, I was writing whiny rant posts by like January 1. In any case, this is a tough time and I totally identify with your frustrations. I really hope we see peace restored.
