Hello All,
I am back from a short hiatus. I was unwell for the past week and instead of pushing myself to post anyhow, I decided to just take a week-long hiatus from the blogging world. Before I get into the more serious posts I have lined up, I thought I’d do a funnish, chill post. As someone who watches a lot of content, I surprisingly spend a lot of my time revisiting old comfort shows. For every new show I watch, I rewatch 3 old shows. I also am a huge fan of shows that revolve around families (probably rooted in my own Indian family upbringing). I love comedies that highlight how loving families can still be dysfunctional. Here are my favourite shows that I’ve rewatched at least a dozen times –
Modern Family
One of the best shows ever made, Modern family is so heartwarming yet exceptionally funny. The Pritchetts are SO lovable in their own unique ways. Every character is so different from each other and yet, they come together to make a dysfunctional but loving family. I love all seasons of the show and rewatch it all time.
Who is your favourite Modern Family character? Mine is Claire closely followed by Phil and Jay.
Watch on Disney Hotstar in India.
Schitt’s Creek
This show doesn’t get enough credit for how amazing it is! I’ve done a whole review on this show before but I rewatched it recently and fell in love with the show all over again. The Rose family is an affluent family that gets duped by their business manager into poverty. Since they own the town called Schitt’s Creek, they move there to rebuild their lives and what follows is each member’s growth through hilarious and learning adventures.
Watch on Netflix.
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai
At a time when most Indian shows revolved around over the top drama, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai was such a fresh breath of air. The show first aired in 2004 and yet, when I rewatch it now, the show is still hilarious! The Sarabhais are an affluent Indian family consisting of parents Maya and Indravadhan and their sons, Sahil and Rosesh. Sahil marries Moneesha who hails from a middle class family in India and hence shares a weird dynamic with her posh, mother in law. Definitely give this show a watch!

Fresh Off The Boat
Another show that doesn’t get enough credit. The show revolves around a Taiwanese immigrant family that is adjusting to life in the US in the 90s. This show is cute and funny! I’m sure a lot of immigrant families would relate with the struggles that the family face with adjusting to a whole new culture while also trying to keep their own culture alive. I love Constance Wu and Randall Park – they are such exceptional actors.

One Day At A Time
I can’t believe that this show only got 4 seasons. The show revolves around a single mother-led Cuban-American family and their daily struggles. Penelope, a war veteran, is raising her two kids with the help of her mother and a friendly neighbour. The show tackles some very relevant issues (such as veteran PTSD, alcoholism, LGBTQ community, racism, etc.) in such sensitive and heartwarming ways. I really enjoyed watching this show.
Watch on Netflix.
The Middle
Another show that will forever be one of my favourite shows ever. Again, I’ve already done a whole review on this show (since I never understood why it didn’t get the love it deserved. The show revolves around The Hecks, an average middle-class family living in Indiana. The show revolves around their struggles to make ends meet and still, enjoy life. Each of the three kids in the family are so different and through them you see the struggles of different types of children. It is a very cute and happy show, one that I totally recommend!
Gilmore Girls
I have to confess that I have rewatched this show at least 25 times – only for Lorelai Gilmore. This show revolves around single (teen) mom, Lorelai, and her relationship with her teenage daughter, Rory. Since Lorelai didn’t share a close relationship with her own parents, she strives hard to be Rory’s best friend and closest ally. Funnily, with each rewatch I have come to find a lot of flaws in Lorelai’s parenting style and a dislike for Rory’s character. But overall the show is what it is because of Lorelai. I was also disappointed by the revival but the original show is still a must-watch on my list of recommendations.
Watch it on Netflix.
Those were all my favourite family shows that are cute, funny and heartwarming. Have you watched them? What are your recommendations?
If you haven’t already, check out my other recent posts here –
I haven’t seen these shows, except sarabhai vs sarabhai. I’m more into Anime (consider making a blog on anime π), so I guess this is why I don’t watch live action stuff much. Although, yes I do like good comedy.
The post says “family” show, and I cannot recommend any of that π.
Also, take care Happy panda, rest well.

I completely agree with you about Schitt’s Creek! That show lives in my head rent free! I watched a couple seasons of Fresh Off The Boat, but I haven’t been able to access any more of them. I do want to continue seeing it. Hope you’re feeling better and glad you’re taking care of yourself β€

I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to TV shows. I’ve I like watching sports, but iI don’t watch many sitcoms like I used to. I like Shark Tank, a show about entrepreneurs trying to get some money, expertise, and doors opened by a shark (investor) in exchange for a piece of their business. I know there are some excellent shows, too. I went through a phase six months ago where I started watching popular, old TV shows on Netflix. I’ve heard good things about Schitt’s Creek, and I’m likely to check that one out.

From the list above, I’ve only watched Schitt’s Creek. Loved it. Because you liked it as well, may I suggest Kim’s Convenience. Sadly, it came to an abrupt end.
