When May started, I challenged myself to stick to a budget this month. If you’ve been following me for a bit, you might know that I’ve started my own small business which means that I’m practically living off of my savings (and crashing at my parent’s home). I’m also trying to be more sustainable and be more mindful of what I buy. But I still did a bit of shopping this month and I’m honestly so excited about everything I got that I had to do a post.
Here’s what I spent my money on this month –
1. A CYCLE – this has to be the BEST purchase ever. I’ve been cycling to places near my house as well as going for 10Km riding sessions every morning and I LOVE it. I’m hoping to get used to cycling everywhere (when the Delhi weather isn’t trying to kill me) including to work which is 14kms away. Overall, with all the accessories I ended up buying, the cycle was more than my monthly shopping budget for May but it’s something I’m going to get good use out of for a long time.

2. KURTAS – I’ve been working on revamping my wardrobe from my “corporate girl” vibe to “that indie boss woman” vibe. I’ve been loving wearing long kurtas to work. Not only are they flattering on my body type but also make me feel like a grown up (yes, I need that confirmation from time to time). So I bought two gorgeous kurtas this month.
Kurta #1: This is a very everyday wearable but still look fashionable kind of kurta. I absolutely love how it fits and looks.

Kurta #2: So this one was pure destiny. My friend and I went to get momos at this market in Delhi called “Dilli Haat”. This bazaar is amazing since it has shops from every state in India selling their local handicrafts. So we were sitting and chomping on momos and he asks me if I want to buy anything. I told him that I’m not shopping this month but had my eye on this one chikankari kurta that I had seen on an online store which I’ll get in a few days. So I pull out my phone and show him the photos and tell him how badly I want that kurta. After that, we walked around the bazaar and reached the very last shop and you won’t believe it but that very same kurta was hanging outside the shop!!! The owner said it was the last piece and it was in the colour I wanted and in my size. It felt like I had manifested it!!! So I obviously had to get it.

3. BLACK PANTS – I’ve been using the same one pair of black pants since 2019. They are from Marks & Spencer and they are the best pants ever. Since I’ve put on weight – the pants are really tight on me now. I’ve still been using them but it’s uncomfortable and it’s summers – so I finally bought another pair that is the right size and lets me breathe easy.
4. MAKE-UP – These were completely avoidable purchases. I got myself a blush-highlight mini pallette and a mini liquid lipstick. Both are amazing and I’ve been using them every single say but I still think that these expenses could have been put off for another month. (I got both on sale and for less than Rs.400 (5USD) each.)

I did buy skincare and haircare but I buy them whenever I run out, so those aren’t on this list. I also got a compost bin and it’s been exciting to work with it. I absolutely loved all my purchases this month.

What is something that is on your shopping list? Or something fun that you treated yourself to recently?
PS: I am by no means encouraging mindless shopping and consumerism which is why I’m not sharing any shopping links. If there is something you absolutely love and want to buy, mail me or DM me on Instagram and I’ll share the link with you.
Have you checked out my other recent posts?
Your list is sooooooo solid! I LOVE the Kurtas, love the makeup, love that compost bin, and all the rest!!! I have so, so, so many things I need and want, and I really donโt have the money for any of it. So I just keep adding to my list and then slowly saving and check each one off as I can manage to get things. However I couldnโt wait any longer and transferred some money from my savings so I could buy a Moroccan rug from Etsy. The rug I have in my place is so hideous and slides around. Itโs actually a source of stress. And Iโve always wanted a Moroccan rug. So I ordered it yesterday! Iโm super excited ๐

You’ve done really well, it’s not like you bought anything you don’t need or won’t use often! I’m on a tight budget just now as I’m planning a bot of travel in the Summer but I do need some new trainers and sports bras so I’ll be budgeting that in. But again, they’re things I’ll use often so worth the spend! Sending lots of positive thoughts of success for the new business.

๐คฃ I did just order boba tea despite telling myself that I’m going not spend money on take out. Honestly, it’s really difficult to be wise with our money in this consumerist world. ๐

Great list! I’ve never heard of Kurtas before- I feel like I’d love one! I hate tight clothing, I like to be able to flow and breathe (especially throughout the summer months)!
I recently treated myself to more pens! LOL I know, it sounds a bit crazy but I have been REALLY into doodling lately! I love watching something on tv or YouTube or list to a podcast and following a YouTube doodle tutorial.. it’s becoming a wonderful past time of mine… very zen!!!

Same. I love tight clothes in winters but in summers I just want to wear flowy clothes even oversized clothes.
Wow – that’s so interesting. I’d love to see your doodles! Do a post on it!

The other day, I was cleaning out the garage and saw that my dog had chewed the pedals off my bike. I’m due for a new one anyway as I’m looking for another exercise to bring in more variety.

Awww. Doggos are the cutest pets albeit sometimes they can be plain naughty. Cycling is such a great exercise! (Although my lower back begs to differ ๐ฅบ)

I have one India kurtas which my mom gave me a while back. I really love it’s flowyness, and comfort ability. I remember you mentioned that your bought a cycle. Hahhahaha I envy you. I’m not a cycle fan. When I was young I fell horribly from my friend’s cycle and since then I never rode any cycle or bike.

The same thing happened with me when I was a kid! I literally fell in a ditch while cycling and hurt my hand and knee. ๐ But I started cycling again a few years back and absolutely love it. I think as a grown up, I’m also more cautious and present while cycling. Definitely give it a try again. โค๏ธ
And yayay that you have a kurta – makes me feel so proud of my culture. ๐ค

I love your kurtas! Seems like you’re manifesting an Alexis Rose Girl Boss in your look and staying true to your culture. I think it’s a great thing to do as a Girl Boss! High five!
