What Is In My Cycling Bag?

I’ve recently started cycling every day to build my stamina and get in that exercise. I only manage to do about 10Kms every session but I’m hoping that will improve with time. I end up carrying a light but loaded bag with me when I go cycling. So what is in this cycling bag?

1. Water bottle: I haven’t gotten a bottle holder for my cycle yet so my bottle is the first thing I keep in my cycling backpack.

2. Face Towel: Delhi is having a pretty crazy summer. I need to stop and clean the sweat off my face fairly often otherwise it gets in my eyes and blinds me.

3. Sanitizer: In case I decide to stop and grab coffee after finishing my cycling circuit. Plus COVID (which doesn’t seem to be going).

4. Petty cash: Digital money is accepted in most places but I still keep some cash at hand incase I need it urgently.

5. Pepper Spray: I usually cycle alone and go either in the morning or late evening. A while back, during my morning cycling session, I had an unpleasant encounter with a man. He blocked my way on the pretext of asking me the way and wouldn’t let me cycle away. I finally got myself a few cans of pepper spray and keep one on me at all times.

6. Screwdriver: I just have one on me to fix any urgent repairs. And it can double to inflict pain/minor injuries.

7. Cycle lock: To, ofcourse, keep my cycle from getting stolen.

8. Perfume: Cycling in this Delhi heat is bound to leave you sweating and smelling. So I carry perfume if I intend to run any chores after my session.

I love cycling but it’s super frustrating that it doesn’t feel safe. For anyone else that goes walking or cycling alone – the Strava app is a great way to track your activity and also share your location with your safety contacts. I’ve been using it to send my live location to my brother and a friend. (This isn’t a sponsored post.)

What physical activity do you do? What are some essentials that you carry with you?

  1. Cycling was my favourite hobby in childhood and presently now I have a cycle but I don’t use it much. I am glad that you are enjoying cycling and the things in your bag are really interesting.
    Keep enjoying cycling Moksha πŸ™‚

  3. Good for you, goddess! And I’m glad you’re taking measures to protect yourself! I do VERY LITTLE physical activity ha 🀣🀣 but I try to do a 30-45 minute nature walk every day. And since the trail is right outside my apartment, I just take a fanny pack and keep my keys and phone in there. If and when I do play tennis, I just take my purse with me onto the court, as well as balls, my racquet, some water, and a towel. Super boring! Your descriptions are way more interesting!!!

Hey, walking is an amazing physical activity! I honestly really like walking cause it’s one of those physical activities where you can lose yourself in your thoughts. Oooh tennis – fun. And also golf, no?

The pepper spray is a good decision you know. I go for a jog around 10 in the night in my society arena almost every day. A few months back there was this guy whom I refer to as the ‘shady man’ followed me for like weeks and I kept ignoring it! And after a few days he legit asked me to talk to him in private!!! The world is not a safe place!!!
Just so you know, I heard this song called Boys Will Be Boys by Dua Lipa, I reckon you’ll like it!

Whaaaaat? That’s so scary! Please be safe. Sharing your live location with someone is somewhat helpful.

The song is amazing!!!!! Thanks for the recommendation. I literally hate the phrase ‘boys will be boys’. We really need to move accountability on men to make our world safer.

  6. Sounds like you have some great items in your kit! It really sucks that women have to be attentive and carry things to stay safe though. I often wonder is it too much to ask people to hold boys accountable?

I knoooow. So my brother also got a cycle and he goes cycling without a care in the world about what time or where he is going…and on the other hand, I am constantly annoyed by men staring or scared when I reach a less crowded stretch. Men really need to start taking accountability to make our Tuesday world safer for women

  7. It’s so hot in Delhi, I can’t imagine cycling. Instead of a water bottle holder, get a bladder and run the hose out the top. It’s easier access and takes up less room/weight in your pack. πŸ™‚

I didn’t even know that bladders exist!!!! I just checked them out and they make so much sense. Thank you for the recommendation – will be ordering one soon.

Cycling outdoors is much more fun than riding a stationary bike at the gym. I used to primarily go to the gym, walk, and swim, but the pool closed permanently during Covid. I do some of my best thinking when I’m exercising.

Sameeeee. I don’t know what it is but when I’m working out my brain is just so sharp and thinking the brightest thoughts. When I’d do to the gym, I’d slow down the treadmill to make note of my thoughts on my phone cause I’d be lowkey impressed with them. 🀣

Smart items in your pack! I go to the gym and I usually carry a small bag with the water bottle, lock, headphones, small towel, workout log book, and pen. I have my bigger gym bag in the truck, but I haven’t used that in forever.
