Monsoon In My City

I love rainy season. It feels like the entire world around is getting cleansed for a new start. When I was younger I always connected rains with romance. In school, my friends and I would sing romantic songs, get drenched in the rain and discuss our crushes. When I was even younger, I loved splashing around in puddles. Every time we’d step out during the rainy season, I’d go looking for the biggest puddle to splash around in. When I was living in Mumbai where it rains continuously for 4-5 months in a year and floods the entire city – I slowly started detesting rain. But now, I’m back to being in love with how my city looks after the rains. I love going walking/cycling during this season cause just everything looks prettier – the leaves greener, the sky grey-er, the flowers happier and the birds chirpier.

Do you like rains? Or do you dread it?

  2. Oh this is such a lovely post!! I don’t often hear people appreciate rain so much and this feels like such a tribute to Mother Nature’s magic. I’ve never really loved the rain while it was happening. Although I’ve had moments in life where you get caught in the rain and if you’re with another person it’s easy to start giggling uncontrollably about it. There’s something so hysterical and surreal about getting soaked! And of course I LOVE just after it rains. I live right by a walking trail so when the rain stops I can just head out and be on the trail within a minute and it’s usually totally empty so I can bond with all the wetness and creatures emerging. So, I guess I do love the rain! And I LOVED this post ☔️🌧💙

I love nature to an extent that I think it’s a quirk.🙈 Like on my way to work, I have these particular 8-9 trees that I love seeing and just seeing them makes my morning happy. Nature is SO healing that I’m addicted to it.
Having someone to get drenched with always leads to fun memories. I remember my best friend and I were playing basketball in school when it started raining and we just kept playing – it’s one of my favourite rain memories.
Ohhh walking that trail after rainfall must be so pretty.

  3. Wonderful imagery, Moksha. I enjoy being outside after a rain too. While I’m not a fan of being outside in the rain, I prefer rainy days when I’m inside. I love watching approaching storms over the lake, and the introvert in me feels less pressure to get out and make plans during rainy weather.

I lived in Tucson Arizona for a few years, and my daughter and I arrived after the monsoon season, but still when there was rainfall in the desert. The first thing that hit us when we got out of the airport and breathed the air after the rain, was how awful it smelled to us! The Chaparral releases a fecund, earthy smell which we found very unpleasant. We were seriously questioning why we agreed to move there! After having been there for a while we came to love the smell of the desert aft the rain, and now I find I miss it!

I used to hate Mumbai rains too cause it would flood the city and you’d be stuck in one place for hours. But now I miss the pretty parts of the city during the rains.

I love the smell of freshness after the rain. We seldom get thunderstorms where we live now, but I remember just staring out of my bedroom window as a kid at the amazing formations made by the lightning across the night sky.

As an adult, I’m terrified of thunder at night. It causes me so much anxiety that I can’t sleep. 🙈

We celebrate our Independence Day on July 4th. It’s one of the few holidays I dislike because our dog is a basket case with all the fireworks that get shot off.

The rains are amazing! The best thing is the smell of wet soil after it rains. It’s oddly calming for me for some reason 😌

I love the rains – not that we get much of it here in Australia. This year however, there has been a lot of rain and I have enjoyed it as much as the plants have. They have flourished – even the grass looks green instead of the usual wintery brown!

I don’t love rain… but you’re right, there was something magical about rain growing up.. and I noticed myself, the other day, trying to not rub my negativity about rain onto Charlotte.. she was talking about how everything is wet from the rain and I told her, rain is great! It helps the leaves and trees grow for the birds and insects – it keeps our streets clean and gives the Earth a bath! She loved it 🙂
