The year was 2011. My family and I were travelling through Egypt. Our tour stopped at a local bazaar for shopping. As we scrutinized the shops wondering where we should go with all the vendors trying to catch our attention, we heard the words we were least expecting to hear. A vendor shouted, “hey, I love Shah Rukh Khan.” We were shocked that a shop vendor in Egypt knew about SRK. (This was before social media and Netflix were a rage world wide.) The exact same thing happened with me in Paris, Bali, Barcelona and Dubai – where local people struck a conversation with me by professing how much they love Shah Rukh Khan. If you are wondering who Shah Rukh is… (are you living under a rock? :P)
Who is Shah Rukh Khan?
Shah Rukh or SRK, as he is popularly known, is a huge Indian Bollywood star. He is lovingly called King Khan. His movie Dil Waale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is the longest–running film in the history of Indian cinema – it has been playing in a Mumbai theatre for over 25 years now. He is also the richest actor in the whole world (Hollywood included) according to some media outlets. He has starred in over 100 movies. Not only has he won accolades in India, but the French government also awarded him the Legion of Honour. He is also the brand ambassador of Dubai.
Why is SRK the only celebrity that I love?
I fell in love for the first time when I was 5 years old and I saw the movie ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ that stars SRK. My heart has been stuck on him for the past 25 years. It isn’t just about him as an actor. To be honest, I haven’t even seen his last 10-12 movies. But it is about his charisma off-screen. He is charming, funny and so quick on his feet in every single media interaction. Even in interviews where the interviewee is trying to get him riled up, he gets through them by joking and even taking himself down to avoid any unpleasantries. He has made it this big in Bollywood on his own by really working hard and taking up whatever jobs came his way. I have immense respect for the amount of hard work he puts into his work. He had back trouble a few years back but finished all his work commitments before getting it operated on. He is also one celeb that I think hasn’t gotten any face treatments to hide his aging. He looks better with age by working out and gracefully aging (as much as his profession allows). I am not huge on celebs, in fact, I don’t think seeing any other celeb would even remotely excite me but I will faint at the sight of SRK. When I was living in Mumbai, I’d go to his house every weekend in the hopes of sighting him and maybe speaking to him. It never happened. 😦 I hope I get to see him one day. *fingers crossed*
I know this was a very random post but I’ve wanted to dedicate a whole post to SRK for a while. He was my first love and love that I haven’t fallen out of with time. Who was your first love?
If you haven’t already, check out my other recent posts –
I agree with your view of King Kahn.😊 I’m Nigerian, and he is my favorite Indian actor. In fact, I rewatched a movie he starred in just yesterday – Jab Tak Hai Jaan. I love him so much.🥺

When I was a kid I saw The Great Gatsby in the movie theater and fell in love with Robert Redford. I not only love him as an actor, but offscreen he has a reputation of being a good guy. He’s done so much for the environmental movement and for youth. These are positive crushes to have!

Yessss! Agreed! Inspirational crushes are always good. I haven’t seen ‘The Great Gatsby’ but I’ve seen snippets of ‘The Way We Were’ and he looked gorgeous. And in ‘Indecent Proposal’ I was rooting for Demi Moore to end up with him (though the movie was so bad). 🤣

Right? Out of Africa was a sexy movie, and I thought he did a great job in The Last Castle still looking hot when he was older! Lol!

I agree a lot of his movies have been average. Like I mentioned in the post – I haven’t even watched his last 10-12 movies. But he is so charismatic as a person – that I truly, madly, deeply love him.
I also love- Swades, Dear Zindagi, DDLJ, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na – for his acting. And Chennai Express and Om Shanti Om type of movies for how entertaining they are. 🙂

I love Shah Rukh Khan!!! 😂 I grew up in UAE, mostly surrounded by arabs. When I was younger, literally every arab household watched Indian movies. It was either SRK or Jackie Chan that people here were obsessed with back then. And since I grew up with that, SRK is still the only Indian actor I keep up with.

Hahahaha wowww
Indian movies always made me to fall in love with love. Love was portrayed so genuine and pure. There was one called ‘Shankar’ or something. He used to be my crush and till today, I have not seen him again ever since that movie.
